About the abc

The Australian Bachata Championship was established in 2008 and is the longest-running competition featuring the best Bachata dancers in the country competing for the title of Australian Bachata Champion. A lineup of some of Australia’s newest and best dancers awaits spectators as they battle it out for over $3000 in prize money and national titles.


Each year we aim to bring you 2 quality nights of nail-biting competition along with amazing workshops and 2 nights with 5+ hours of social dancing , PLUS, international artist Mario Baro!


The competition is divided into two components, which are the choreography component, where teams and couples dance it out to win the best choreography prize, and the Jack and Jill Freestyle Competition, where dancers are paired up randomly and marked on their leading or following. The choreography component will be held on the Friday, and the Jack and Jill Freestyle component will be held on the Saturday.


This year’s championship will be held in a brand-new venue equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system, designed to elevate both performance and atmosphere.


The Championship is organised by Bachateame, Sydney's biggest Bachata night, which is led by two of Sydney’s well know Latin Dance event promoters and organisers.

PEDRO

Pedro is an up and coming event organiser and Dj in the Sydney Latin dance community. He currently runs a few successful events in the Sydney Latin scene and is a full-time teacher at Tropical Soul dance studios. He is known for his full of life character and humorous nature. Outside of the dance scene, he is a successful magician and hypnotist performing at various events across Sydney.

YISEUL

Yiseul is one of the organisers of Bachateame with Pedro and Sohel. Her love of the Latin dance didn’t stop her ever since she took the first class and it has carried her till now to teach, perform and organise the events including Australian Bachata Championship.

SOHEL

Sohel’s passion for Latin Dance has brought him so much joy & happiness, he has fallen in love with Salsa when it was introduced to him for the first time, ever since then he has pushed himself to be a better dancer & learn all types of dances in Sydney Salsa scene.
